Guenivere's Letter to the Prince

Dear Edwin,

I will never forgive you.

You promised me that you would take care of Precious. What were you thinking? Why would you bring an old dog to Lamure… to a god-damned tear in the fabric of reality? Just like always, you go on vacation so that you can play ‘artist,’ completely ignoring your responsibilities.

You have too many people counting on you to do things like this.

But you know what? I’m done telling you to grow up. I am not going to hide any longer. Mom was the only one in our family who cared about the kingdom. If I let you inherit, she’ll roll in her grave.

Yesterday, I saw kobolds loot my town. Watched people panic and flee, leaving behind their friends and family to save themselves. Parents calling for children they could not find. It would have been so easy to slip into the passages that Glink built for me. But it was like I could feel my Elderin blood boiling with rage. What kind of world is this, where people can lose everything so quickly, while people like our family live behind walled estates and travel with armed soldiers at our sides?

When I stood up, the people listened. I was able to lead them to safety.

People always listen to me. For so long, I didn’t get why so many people were going on about this ‘Heir’ crap. Why should they want me to boss them around just because my great-grandparents had an army? But the truth is… people want to be led. They need to be led. And if I don’t do it, then they’ll follow someone worse.

I’m sending you this letter as a warning. I don’t want us to be enemies. There are enough people who want us dead. But if you stand in my way, I won’t hold back.

Love,
Gwenivere Elderin
